50th Anniversary

Amalgamation

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Amalgamation of two schools, Kincoppal, Elizabeth Bay, and Rose Bay Convent. Each of these Sacred Heart schools had its own rich history and culture but shared one mission and one vision, and in 1971, with the Amalgamation became one school: Kincoppal-Rose Bay School of the Sacred Heart with the motto, ‘Cor Unum’, One Heart and One Mind.

Liturgy

A liturgy led by members of the Society of the Sacred Heart, alumnae and students from the KRB community.

Child of Mary Medal

When I was School Captain, I wore a medal something like this one. I think I left it at the School when I left the First Medallion, which was no doubt passed on to the next recipient.

Rose Bay Crockery

The crockery I remember was all marked with the Rose Bay monogram and wreath…it looks oh so familiar.

Sacred Heart Writing Cards

Sacre Coeur writing was distinctive and highly valued. It was taught intensively in the Third Division. Incompetent writers were obliged to continue to practice in later years.  As a very incompetent writer, I was still copying a quota of cards in the First Class, one year before the Leaving Certificate.  I still write badly but love to see letters and cards from others where the distinctive scrip announces their background even before I open the envelope.

Feast Books

Feast Books were very serious business taking many hours to present our very best work during our primary school at Barat-Burn and Kerever Park.  I still have many of my Feast Books.

Elizabeth O’Connor (Ramsay-Sharp; Rose Bay 1964)

Weekly Notes

Weekly Notes and Prize Giving were held in the Hall. It was where we learned to curtesy and dance the waltz, and to sit straight and still for hours with our hands held meekly in our laps and our feet tucked daintily to one side.

Marian St Leger Moss (Kincoppal 1969)

Serviette Rings

We all had our own serviette rings with our names or initials engraved. We also used our own linen serviettes – large and white usually.

Libi Bradford (Dowd; Rose Bay 1965)

Sports Trophies

Loretto Crowe and I won the senior doubles in 1963. Still a real thrill.  Loretto was a year ahead of me and our lives went in quite different directions when we left school until we met up at an alumnae reunion in Melbourne in the mid-1990s. After that, we started to play tennis again until I returned to Sydney in 2000. Our close friendship has continued ever since.
